What We Do

By planting, maintaining, and harvesting crops grown according to custom, many grown from indigenous seeds, a bounty of healthy foods can be distributed to those who need them.

Our Mission

Our goal is to preserve and promote the traditions and customs of Native American Peoples, and to create an awareness of the cultural values and relevance of those who came before us and lived as one with the mother earth. In an age that is suffering the loss of balance on our planet, we hope to bring awareness of the importance of the relationship between people and the earth. By planting with seeds that are the indigenous to specific Indian Nations, we will create an awareness of the broad diversity of the indigenous American heritage. We grow to share the bounty of what are garden produces, and to provide an opportunity for volunteerism to thrive in a healthy environment of working outdoors as neighbors and friends.

What We’ve Achieved

Each year, we provide a considerable amount of fresh produce which is distributed through a variety of channels, including, but not limited to, the Heart of America Indian Center, also known as the Kansas City Indian Center, 600 W 39th St, Kansas City, MO 64111. Visitors to the garden during harvest season are encouraged to help themselves to fresh produce as well, and volunteers to the garden also take home what we grow to enjoy at the dinner table at home.

Additionally, the National Center for Indigenous American Cultures, parent of the Thidaware Native American Association, has in the past and will again in 2022 sponsor an Indian Festival, to take place at the site of the Thidaware Garden at Line Creek Community Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The festival will feature artists, speakers, music, dance, and will present an exciting look into the past, current, and future of Indigenous Culture. More information with specific dates and event programming is forthcoming.
